My Pocket’s First 90 Days

My Pocket has been live on Android for about three months now, sitting in “review” status while the first real users put it through its paces. Here’s an honest look back at what those first 90 days actually looked like.

Week one: silence, then the first bug report

The first few days after any launch are quiet in a specific way — you refresh analytics more than is healthy, and the app just… works, for the handful of people using it. The first real bug report (a rendering issue on a specific Android screen size) felt like a milestone rather than a setback. It meant real people were actually using the app.

The features that got used differently than expected

I expected the Expense Tracker to be the most-used feature by a wide margin. It’s popular, but Lend & Borrow gets opened almost as often — turns out “who owes who” is a more constant, nagging problem for people than I’d guessed, and having a shared, always-current answer to it clearly scratches an itch.

What changed based on early feedback

  • Search and filtering got added to the Expense Tracker earlier than planned — several early users asked for it in the first two weeks.
  • The home dashboard’s priority tasks section exists because people wanted a single glance-and-go view instead of navigating into each tool separately.
  • The dark theme itself has been tuned more than once based on “it’s a bit too dark” feedback — including twice in the last two weeks.

What’s next

iPhone support is the biggest thing in progress, alongside Group Trip Costs. Both get real screen time in this blog as they get closer — for now, the focus is the same as it was on day one: keep the app free, keep it fast, and keep listening to whoever’s actually using it.
